Portfolio
In her most recent Raku ware, Lynn Dee continues to explore form, pattern and texture. She enhances her hand thrown shapes and sculptural attachments with brushwork of glazes and metallic oxides. Bamboo has long been one of her favorite subjects. However, it was not until she had bamboo growing in her own garden, that she sat down with brush and glaze in hand and painted bamboo directly onto a vase. That was more than ten years ago. Her bamboo brushwork has gradually acquired more feeling and become more abstract.
Initially she worked almost exclusively with black and white in Raku,Then color became more important, with a vibrant palette of yellows, blues, turquoise and greens. Her inspiration to work with color came from years as a dyer and fabric painter. She has always been avid about designing and mixing her own glazes
Her latest work is more sculptural than ever before. The Desert Series is inspired by winters spent in the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park and travels around the Southwest. She is incorporating the desert into the works themselves in the form of sand and clay painted onto the work before the first firing and in the glazes during the Raku firing.
“The Portfolio is a collection of some of my favorite pieces. The majority are recent. Some are available for purchase. If any of these works speak to you, please contact me. I can also create a piece to your specification in another color, size or design. I photograph my own work so I can send images for your approval as I proceed. All my pieces are one of a kind.”
